A strange little lizard clings to a scraggly plant in a dusty, dreamlike desert, one bright eye fixed on something just out of view. Is it guarding, waiting, or simply holding on?
The painting takes its name from the ocotillo, a desert plant that leafs out after a rain and goes bare again when the ground dries. Somewhere between those two seasons, in the pastel haze of an in-between moment, this little creature has found its spot.
